59 VOTED FIRST-TIME WINNERS OF NSMA STATE AWARDS, FIVE ELECTED WITH 12 OR MORE WINS

01.16.2024

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (January 16, 2024) – 59 first-time winners have been voted as their state’s National Sports Media Association Sportscaster or Sportswriter of the Year for 2023, NSMA executive director Dave Goren announced. David Teel of the Richmond Times Dispatch was elected Virginia Sportswriter of the Year for a record 15th time, leading a group of five who have won 12 or more state awards. The winners were the leading vote-getters in NSMA member balloting held during the month of December.

Joining Teel as double-digit winners are Kevin Tresolini of The News Journal (Delaware Sportswriter – 14th time), Allen Lessels of UNH Insider (New Hampshire Sportswriter of the Year – 13th time), Russ Langer of the Las Vegas Aviators and UNLV (Nevada Sportscaster of the Year – 12th time, plus one time in New Mexico), and Mike Keith of the Tennessee Titans (Tennessee Sportscaster of the Year – 12th time).

The NSMA will honor its award winners and Hall of Fame inductees during the organization’s 64th awards weekend and national convention, to be held this summer in North Carolina.

Hall of Fame inductees and 2023 National winners were announced on January 9.

Below is the complete list of state award winners (number of times won in parenthesis).
