Spencer Tomsett, an NSMA member since his student days at Middle Tennessee State University, has arrived in Santiago, Chile. There, he will cover the FIFA Men's Under-20 World Cup as part of the International Sports Press Association's (AIPS) Young Reporters program.

Tomsett earned both his Bachelor of Science degree in Journalism and Master of Science in Media and Communication from MTSU. His master's thesis was The Angle Through The Rings: College Students' Perception Of The 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games. He was the founding secretary of MTSU's NSMA student chapter, rising to president during the last year of his master's studies.

The Franklin, TN resident went on to the University of Alabama, where, this May, he earned his PhD in Communication and Information Sciences. While there, he founded NSMA's UofA student chapter and recruited more than 40 student members.

After earning his doctorate, Tomsett returned home to Tennessee, where he's been working as a freelance play-by-play announcer for a variety of assignments. He hopes one day to announce a Super Bowl for a major network.
