ROCHESTER, NY – Washington Nationals pitcher Stephen Strasburg has been named the Hickok Belt® Award winner for the month of October 2019. Voting was conducted by a select panel of members of the National Sports Media Association (NSMA). The voters selected Strasburg, the premier pitcher, who won two games for the Nationals, which were key to the team winning their first ever World Series. Strasburg was bestowed with the World Series MVP Award, the first number one overall draft pick to ever earn the award, for his two World Series wins in two games. After ending the playoffs with a 5 and 0 record, 1-98 ERA, 0.94 WHIP and 47 strikeouts, he and teammate Juan Soto were the winners of the Babe Ruth MVP award for the overall playoffs. Strasburg finished 2019 with the most wins in the regular season (18) with a 3.32 ERA.

Other finalists for the month of October in order of how the NSMA ranked them included: Eliud Kipchoge (marathon), Anthony Rendon (baseball), Kirk Cousins (football), Jose Altuve (baseball), Nick Bosa (football), Leon Draisaitl (hockey), Giannis Antetokounmpo (basketball), Kawhi Leonard (basketball) and David Pastrnak (hockey).
