11.18.2020

Rochester, NY – Los Angeles small forward LeBron James has been selected as the Hickok Belt® Award winner for October 2020. Voting was conducted by a select panel of members of the National Sports Media Association (NSMA). The voters selected superstar LeBron James based on his on-court performance in the NBA Finals in which he led the Los Angeles Lakers to the team’s 17th title for the franchise, tying with the Boston Celtics for the most titles in NBA history. In Game Six of the NBA Finals the Lakers eliminated the Miami Heat 106-93. The Lakers were then crowned league champions and James was selected as the MVP of the NBA Finals, his fourth Finals MVP award. He is the only player in the history of the NBA to have won the award with three different franchises. It is James's tenth NBA Finals and his fourth championship. He finished Game Six with 28 points, 14 rebounds and 10 assists, with a triple-double. James performed at a high-level performance in the NBA Finals and he is regarded as one of the best professional basketball players in history.

Other finalists for the month of October in order of how the NSMA ranked them were: Corey Seager (baseball), Rafael Nadal (tennis), Julio Urias (baseball), Derrick Henry (football), Deshaun Watson (football), Iga Swiatek (tennis), DeAndre Hopkins (football), Teofimo Lopez (boxing) and Sei Young Kim (golf).

James’s selection as the Hickok Belt® Award winner for the month of October 2020 not only recognizes him as “the best of the best” in professional sports for the month and makes him the seventh candidate eligible to receive the overall Hickok Belt® Award for 2020, joining Bryson DeChambeau, Donovan Mitchell, Jon Rahm, Dustin Johnson, Tyson Fury and Patrick Mahomes.
