Meet the 2019 Award Winners: Idaho Sportscaster Bob Behler

Today’s award spotlight is on NSMA 2019 Idaho Sportscaster of the Year, Bob Behler. Behler is the voice of both Boise State football and basketball, doing play-by-play at the university since 2008. Prior to working at Boise State, the Georgia University graduate broadcasted for the Chattanooga Lookouts AA baseball team then was a broadcaster at Bucknell University, for two and 13 years respectively. He then served as the Director of Broadcast Services in Massachusetts for nine years before switching over to his current position. Behler also works freelance for CBS Radio, calling NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament games, and providing sports updates for ESPN Radio.

This will be Behler's fifth time winning Idaho Sportscaster of the Year, his first win being in 2010. He has also been awarded for his play-by-play work of Minutemen sports by the Associated Press eight times.

Behler briefly spoke with NSMA on his career and other thoughts regarding the industry.

NSMA: What was your career path like on the way to your current position?

NSMA: What is your favorite thing about your job?

BB: Getting to call the games.

NSMA: What has been the biggest highlight of your career so far?

BB: Having the chance to call a couple of Fiesta Bowls.

NSMA: What is the best piece of advice you have for people pursuing a career in sports media?

BB: Do as much as you can.
