Meet the 2019 Award Winners: Michigan Sportscaster Jack Ebling

Today’s award spotlight is on NSMA 2019 Michigan Sportscaster of the Year, Jack Ebling. Ebling is a sportscaster on 92.1 FM & Fox 47. He has been covering sports as a writer and broadcaster in Mid-Michigan since 1978. The former high school teacher and coach was a writer for the Lansing State Journal. He was also inducted into the 2006 Greater Lansing Area Sports Hall of Fame. He is the author of multiple books including Tales from the Detroit Tigers Dugout: A Collection of the Greatest Tigers Stories Ever Told.

Ebling the host of The Drive With Jack, a show where he covers behind-the-scenes insight, breaking news, and various opinions.

This will be Ebling’s sixth NSMA win, his second as Michigan Sportscaster of the Year. His four others were for Michigan Sportswriter of the Year, his first being in 1970, making him one of few to ever receive both state category awards.

NSMA: What was your career path like on the way to your current position?

Jack Ebling: English teacher and football/track coach at Lapeer West High School in Michigan for three years, beat writer/columnist for the Lansing State Journal for 25 before reinventing

NSMA: What is your favorite thing about your job?

JE: The creative freedom it offers, with every show a blank canvas

NSMA: What has been the biggest highlight of your career so far?

JE: Greater Lansing Area Sports Hall of Fame and five NSMA Michigan sportswriter and sportscaster honors one of three people to win multiple awards in each category
