Corcoran briefly spoke with NSMA on his career and other thoughts regarding the industry.

NSMA: What was your career path like on your way to your current position?

Riley Corcoran: After graduating from Washington State, I was in Boise for a year hosting a radio show and calling games before going out to North Carolina to call baseball for a summer. From there, I got my break into Division 1 broadcasting as a #2 for 3 years before landing my current role as Voice of the Griz at 26!

NSMA: What is your favorite thing about your job?

RC: From being the eyes and ears of passionate fans at games to representing Griz Athletics year round, my job is extremely fulfilling and I take pride in being a piece that brings everyone together. Also, the relationships built with coaches and student athletes are priceless and I love telling their story and documenting their journey through each season.

NSMA: What has been the biggest highlight of your career so far?

RC: Calling NCAA Tournament games in back to back years when the Grizzlies won the Big Sky in 2018 and 2019 as well as calling the 2019 Griz football season as they won 10 games and returned to the FCS Quarterfinals for the first time in 10 years.

NSMA: What is the best piece of advice you have for people pursuing a career in sports media?

RC: Building relationships and earning trust are so important at every step of the career ladder. Never stop grinding and take every opportunity you can to get better!
