AIPS call for his immediate release of Amadou Djouldé Diallo

04.15.2021

Lausanne, April 15, 2021 - The International Sports Press Association (AIPS) is worried and astonished by the continued detention of Amadou Djouldé Diallo, president of the Journalist Association of Sports in Guinea and vice-president of AIPS-Africa. We call for his immediate release in accordance with the press freedom law in force in Guinea.

A simple fine corresponding to a press-related crime was requested against Amadou Djouldé Diallo on the 13th of April during his trial in Conakry, of which the final decision will be deliberated on the 28th of April. However, the prosecutor refused the provisional release of the journalist.

Amadou Djouldé Diallo is being prosecuted for "slander against the Head of State" after denouncing ethnic violence during a private Guinean radio program in February 2021. In Guinea, the law abolishes private liberty convictions for press-related crime. AIPS calls for the strict application of this law.
