Meet the 2019 Award Winners: Ohio Sportswriter Paul Daugherty

Today’s award spotlight is on NSMA 2019 Ohio Sportswriter of the Year, Paul Daugherty. Daugherty has been a sports columnist for the Cincinnati Enquirer for the past 27 years. Daugherty became a sportswriter because of his love for sports and natural talent as a writer whose passion of learning and seeing new things drove him to get involved with the industry.

This would be Daugherty’s second win as Ohio Sportswriter of the Year in a row, both in affiliation with the Cincinnati Enquirer.

Daugherty briefly spoke with NSMA on his career and other thoughts regarding the industry.

NSMA: What was your career path like on your way to your current position?

Paul Daugherty: Norfolk, VA, Dallas, New York, Cincinnati

NSMA: What is your favorite thing about your job?

PD: The travel. The Masters

NSMA: What has been the biggest highlight of your career so far?

PD: Attending 5 Olympic Summer Games, 23 Masters tournaments, 15 US Open championships, 21 Final 4s, 13 Super Bowls

NSMA: What is the best piece of advice you have for people pursuing a career in sports media?

PD: Never say no.
