Meet the 2020 Award Winners: CT Sportswriter Joe Morelli

Joe Morelli is a veteran sportswriter, who covers high school sports and golf for HearstCT media. He recently took part in an interview with NSMA intern Sahil Dhawan.

Sahil Dhawan: What was your career path like? Did you always know you wanted to be in sports media?

Joe Morelli: When you realize at a young age you're not good enough to play... it was in high school that I chose this career path, so remember, that was the late 1980s and the business has changed dramatically since then. Knowing what I know now, it's hard to say if I would've chosen the same path. A lot of the stuff is still the same. You get to the heart of the story, you get to know the people that you're dealing with and telling their stories. That part has changed and it's still the best part about the job.
