Meet the 2020 Award Winners: DC co-Sportscaster Dave Jageler

02.24.2021

Dave Jageler is one of the radio voices of the Washington Nationals. He and Washington Capitals radio voice John Walton tied for the 2020 DC Sportscaster of the Year Award.

He was recently interviewed by NSMA intern, Sahil Dhawan.

Sahil Dhawan: Did you always know you wanted to be in this industry? And what was your career path like on the way to where you are now?

Dave Jageler: I knew fairly early on, high school, middle school, that this is what I wanted to do. I loved sports. I followed it. I wanted to be in it. I knew I wasn't going to be able to play at the highest level, so I took interest in announcers and announcing. I paid attention and critiqued, and just tried to take different elements from the announcers I listened to growing up. And if I happened to go to a game, I'd be sneaking a peek into the press box and try to catch a glimpse of the guys I listened to on radio or television. I knew this was the path I wanted to follow. I didn't know what path that would take, which sport. Baseball was kinda my first love, it's the sport I played in high school. And I always love to tell the story that my broadcasting career started to an audience of one, when I played high school baseball in Windsor, Connecticut. I would broadcast the games I played in. I played in the outfield, so there wasn't a whole lot of action...
