This award spotlight is on NSMA 2020 North Dakota Sportscaster of the Year, Jody Norstedt, a first-time NSMA winner! On-Air Talent for Midco Sports Network, Host of Varsity Sports Live & North Dakota Varsity Sports Update. Jody also does North Dakota high school play-by-play and is a sideline reporter for North Dakota State basketball.

Norstedt was interviewed by NSMA intern Sahil Dhawan on his career and the industry as a whole.

NSMA: What was your career path like on your way to your current position?

Jody: I trace it back to dirt track racing. My dad loved to take us to those races and I would love to hear the announcer there. Me and my brother went home and pretended to be broadcasters. I always thought it'd be something cool to do one day. Switched my area of study to broadcast journalism. Got an internship and then a full time offer out of college.

NSMA: What is your favorite part of the job?

Jody: Giving high school sports a big stage. Showcasing the kids, they just want the have fun and represent their schools. Uplifting and encouraging stories all over the place. Sharing stories that truly impact people.

NSMA: What's some advice you can give those new to the industry?

Jody: Work hard, do what your bosses ask you to do. Get the basics down, Working with social media, editing, behind the scenes work, play by play etc.

NSMA: What has been the highlight of your career thus far?

Jody: Attending the NFL Combine was incredible. Being side by side with guys like Adam Schefter and Ian Rappaport. Also, covering Carson Wentz's first professional game in Philadelphia was awesome.
