Meet the 2020 Award Winners: Yianni Kourakis

2020 South Carolina Sportswriter of the Year talked to NSMA intern Sahil Dhawan recently. Here's part of their conversation:

Sahil Dhawan: What was your career path like on your way to your current position? Did you always know you wanted to go into sports media?

Yianni Kourakis: I did and I knew at a pretty early age, even in high school when I was doing the morning announcements. I went to the University of Maryland for broadcast journalism. I graduated from there. I did the traditional small market ‘moved your way up' and right now I’ve been doing it for 14 years or so. It feels like it’s flown by. So yeah, I was like ‘you’ve got to do this for a living' and am currently doing it where I’m from here in New England in Rhode Island and covering teams I love and grew up supporting.
