Mikaela Shiffrin wins second monthly Hickok Belt® Award this year

ROCHESTER, NY – For the second time this year, 28 year old Alpine Skier Mikaela Shiffrin has been named the Hickok Belt® Award winner for the month of March 2023. Voting was conducted by a select panel of members of the National Sports Media Association (NSMA). Shiffrin’s remarkable high level performance during the month of March, which included winning her 88th World Cup race (most by any alpine skier in history) solidified her claim on the monthly award. She surpassed the record for the most World Cup victories previously held by Lindsey Vonn. Overall, Mikaela Shiffrin is the most accomplished female skier of all time and ranks among the most dominant athletes of the 21st century. Her new record setting achievements based on the month of March is one for the ages.

Other finalists for the month of March in order of how the NSMA ranked them included: Scottie Scheffler (golf) and Joel Embid (basketball) – TIE, Connor McDavid (hockey), William Byron (auto racing), Ryan Redington (dog sled racing), Jin Young Ko (golf) and Igor Shesterkin (hockey) – TIE, Carlos Alcaraz (tennis) and Max Verstappen (auto racing).

Shiffrin’s selection as the Hickok Belt® winner for the month of March not only recognizes her as “the best of the best” in professional sports for the month, it also makes her the second candidate eligible to receive the 2023 overall award, joining Damian Lillard and other finalists throughout the year based on NSMA voting.
