Minnesota Lynx Name Former NSMA Student Chapter President Epps as Radio PxP Voice
05.14.2024The Minnesota Lynx today announced the organization will return to radio airwaves for the first time since the 2019 season. As part of the organization’s groundbreaking partnership with iHeartMedia Minneapolis announced in 2023, more than 20 regular season Lynx games will broadcast on the organization’s flagship radio station, KFAN (KFAN FM 100.3) and all 40 regular season games will exclusively stream on the iHeartRadio App and the Lynx App, offering broadcasts on three platforms.
“We are thrilled to bring back our Lynx radio broadcast and simultaneously launch our exclusive Lynx streaming channel on the iHeart Media platform,” said Timberwolves and Lynx Chief Operating Officer Ryan Tanke. “We recognize we are in the midst of a pivotal movement in women’s sports and hope to engage new audiences through our innovative programming. The expanded coverage and access are a testament to the growing demand for Lynx basketball and unique team content.”
“We are honored to be the radio broadcast home of the Minnesota Lynx, a historic franchise with an incredible fanbase,” said Greg Alexander, Market President of iHeartMedia. “We look forward to bringing Lynx basketball coverage and exclusive content to Lynx fans near and far.”
With the return of Lynx radio, the organization has named Wendell Epps the team’s radio play-by-play announcer. Epps served as NSMA's student chapter president at High Point University. He also volunteered at the NSMA Awards Weekend in 2021, interviewing Hall of Famers, including Dick Stockton (pictured), Bill Rhoden and Rick Telander.
As the new voice of the Minnesota Lynx, Epps will bring Lynx basketball to a fast-growing fanbase, providing unprecedented access to Lynx players, coaches, and leadership. In addition to his radio play-by-play role, Epps will represent the Lynx across all digital platforms, creating new and exclusive team content throughout the WNBA season and offseason.
Epps most recently spent time calling games for NBA G League team Osceola Magic, serving as a television announcer calling all home games aired on Bally Sports Florida. Epps concurrently served as a Radio Graduate Associate with the Orlando Magic and worked all home and away broadcasts, produced and edited podcasts, and conducted interviews with players and coaches. Epps also served as the host of the “Around The NBA” scoreboard segment for all Orlando Magic away radio broadcasts.
“I am very excited and humbled for this amazing opportunity to be joining a storied franchise at such a pivotal moment in WNBA history,” said Epps. “I look forward to being an energetic radio play-by-play voice for the Lynx and bringing high-level and engaging content to the Minnesota fanbase and organization.”
