ROCHESTER, NY – Boston Red Sox first baseman Steve Pearce has been named the Hickok Belt® Award winner for October 2018. Voting was conducted by a select panel of members of the National Sports Media Association (NSMA). The voters selected Steve Pearce based on his outstanding performance in the 2018 World Series versus the Los Angeles Dodgers. Pearce’s impact was first felt in Game 4 with a solo home run to tie the game at 4 in the eighth inning. In the next inning he hit a base clearing double to put the Red Sox ahead 8-4 for good. In the fifth game he opened the scoring in the first inning with a two-run home run off of Clayton Kershaw, yielding the Red Sox the lead which they never lost. In the eighth inning he hit a solo home run guaranteeing the game and World Series win, giving him his first World Series ring. He is only the 4th Red Sox player to win the MVP Award, which began in 1955, joining members Mike Lowell, David Ortiz and Manny Ramirez.

Other finalists for the month of October in order of how the NSMA ranked them included: Nathan Eovaldi (baseball), Patrick Mahomes (football), Steph Curry (basketball), Eliud Kipchoge (track & field), Abraham Kiptum (track & field), Lewis Hamilton (auto racing), Mikko Rantanen (hockey), Jaroslav Halak (hockey), Odell Beckham, Jr., (football).

His selection as the Hickok Belt® Award winner for the month of October recognizes Steve Pearce as “the best of the best” in professional sports for the month and makes him the seventh candidate eligible to receive the overall Hickok Belt® Award for 2018, joining Christian Yelich, Brooks Koepka, Kevin Durant, LeBron James, Nick Foles and Matt Carpenter.
