Tiger Woods Named Hickok Belt® Award Winner for April 2019
05.13.2019Rochester, NY – Golf icon Tiger Woods has been named the Hickok Belt® Award winner for the month of April 2019. Voting was conducted by a select panel of members of the National Sports Media Association (NSMA). The voters selected Tiger Woods for his incredible achievements at the 2019 Masters, proving to the world why he is one of pro golf’s greatest players of all time. After a number of back surgeries and thinking he could never play professional golf again, Tiger soared to the very top of the sports world by winning the 2019 Masters, his fifth, after not winning a major title for eleven years. Throughout his career he has won fifteen major titles. Only three behind Jack Nicklaus who has won 18 major tournaments. This is Tiger’s fifth green jacket, the first since 2005. He earned his first Masters title at the age of 21, the youngest Masters champion ever and now, at the age of 43, he becomes the second oldest to win, behind Jack Nicklaus, who was 46 when he won in 1986. Tiger proved to the entire sports world that he can be called the greatest living athlete, letting nothing stop him from rising to the top of the sports world again, after being totally off the stage for so long. His epic fifth major Masters victory is truly one for the ages.
Other finalists for the month of April in order of how the NSMA voters ranked them included: Cody Bellinger (baseball), Kevin Durant (basketball), Zach Greinke (baseball) and Kawhi Leonard (basketball) tie, Kyle Busch (auto racing), Logan Couture (hockey), Robin Lehner (hockey), Brooke Henderson (golf) and Omaha Beach (Mike Smith jockey) (horse racing).
His selection as the Hickok Belt® Award winner for the month of March 2019 recognizes Tiger Woods as “the best of the best” in professional sports for the month and makes him the fourth candidate eligible to receive the overall Hickok Belt® Award for 2019, joining Kyle Busch, Julian Edelman and Tom Brady.
