Your Website + AI = Staying Relevant Forever
11.20.2025
Newsrooms shrink. Papers fold. Networks lose event coverage rights — or others buy them.
Where does that leave you, the person behind the mic or keyboard?
You’ve done the work and want to show it to future employers or subscribers if you decide to go the route of many talented sports journalists. That’s where your own website and AI come in.
A website alone won’t make you relevant. AI alone won’t make you visible. But together? That’s how you stay findable now and forever.
Here’s how:
Keep it simple ✅
Four pages are all you need for your website.
- Home: Who you are + standout work
- About: Short bio + longer version
- Work: Top clips, podcasts, broadcasts, photos
- Contact: Easy to find, easy to use — include on every page.
Tip: Fast, mobile-friendly and clean beats fancy and cluttered. Make it easy to skim and be sure every element is as worthy as you are to the industry. Every word matters.
Show your work
Pick stories that prove you can do the job:
- Clips and podcasts that showcase your skills (save all your work as PDFs in case your outlet is bought or disappears).
- Photos of you at work — sideline, press box, studio
- Links to trusted outlets you’ve worked with
Pro move: Update this page often. Fresh content = humans notice + AI notices.
Make your site and other content AI-friendly
AI is how people search for sources. Help it help you:
- Use short, clear descriptions for every clip.
- Include your name where it matters; reference articles written/produced by notable professionals in your field.
- Keep content current.
- Include links to credible outlets.
- Make contact info easy to read.
Who are you really? Your bio matters
Make your bio human and readable.
- What do you cover — and what would you like to cover?
- Why are you qualified to write and speak about your favorite topics? What makes you credible?
- No résumé dump. No long “journey” story.
Remember: Humans skim your bio. AI reads it. Both decide if you get seen during a search.
Don’t overthink it
- Buy your domain (first thing I do with new clients is secure their name or something the public will know them by if they’re available).
- Pick a simple template.
- Add your best work on a scannable page
- Update whenever you produce something worth sharing.
Your site + AI = proof you’re still here, still relevant, still legit.
TL;DR
Simple site. Best work. Fresh updates. Human-friendly + AI-ready.
Do this and you won’t disappear — even if your newsroom does.
