Meet Our Spring 2024 Interns

My name is Alyssa Andrews, and I am currently a junior at Wake Forest University, soon to transition into my senior year. Alongside my academic pursuits, I am proud to represent Wake Forest as a member of the women's basketball team, where I showcase my passion and dedication to the sport. Originally from Manassas, VA, I am pursuing a major in Communications with a minor in Journalism, fueled by my aspiration to become a sportscaster, specializing in basketball. Beyond the court and the classroom, I am actively involved in the student-athlete community as a member of the student-athlete Advisory Council (SAAC) at Wake Forest. Additionally, I am honored to be a part of the ACC Women’s Basketball Student-Athlete Advisory Group for the 2023-2024 term. With a genuine love for sports and a desire to immerse myself in their dynamic world, I am eager to embark on a fulfilling journey that combines my academic interests with my athletic pursuits.

McKenzie Kane is a junior strategic communications major and a member of the women’s golf team at Washington and Lee University. Born in Berlin, CT, and raised in Lutz, FL, McKenzie serves as the sole sideline sports reporter for the W&L student-run newscast, the Rockbridge Report. She also hosts a Friday night radio show at the campus station 91.5 WLUR. Inspired by her on-field interviews, she started her podcast "Chick with the Mic," where she interviews coaches and athletes about their lives outside the world of sports. McKenzie hopes to channel her love of athletics and storytelling into a future career as a sports reporter.

My name is Scottie Kimmelman and I'm currently a Sophomore at Wake Forest University studying Communications, Journalism, and Spanish. I am originally from Bernardsville, New Jersey but have since then moved to San Diego, California. I went to high school at Blair Academy in Blairstown, New Jersey where I was the play-by-play commentator for the state championship runner-up basketball team. I also have experience working in sports production as an Assistant Director at Bally Sports Florida covering the Miami Marlins. After I finish my time at Wake Forest, I will be pursuing a career in sports broadcasting and all things sports media. I've been having a wonderful time interning for the NSMA and am excited to keep things going!

Riley Mann is a sophomore communications major at Wake Forest University. Riley was born in Flint, Michigan, and grew up in Sanibel Island, Florida. She is a member of the Wake Forest cheerleading team. In addition to school and cheerleading, Riley participates with the Best Buddies group on campus, working with kids with special needs. She also serves on the philanthropy board of her sorority, Kappa Beta Gamma. After graduating, Riley would like to do something in athletics or sports law.

My name is Nathan Nootbaar and I will be entering my junior year at the University of Pittsburgh this fall majoring in film and media studies with a concentration on broadcasting. Back in high school, I was president of the Digital Media Club and broadcast the school’s football and women’s basketball games. I played a year of NCAA DIII basketball at Pitt-Bradford while broadcasting soccer games in the fall before stepping away from the team to focus on broadcasting and working for the team as its video coordinator. I will be transferring to Pitt in the fall and I look to jump right into the opportunities that the athletics department and local teams/media can provide. My goal is to be a broadcaster affiliated with a professional or collegiate team and to share their story with the rest of the world.
