Longtime NSMA supporter, Palmer dies
The NSMA extends its condolences to the family of Joan Palmer, a longtime NSMA supporter, who passed away last month after a battle with cancer.
Joan grew up with what was then the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association, since her parents -- Hank and Petie -- were two of the organization's Salisbury, NC founders. She took over her father's business, Palmer's Promotions, and provided the NSSA with many promotional items that were sent to members, or given to NSSA award winners.
Going Remote: How to be Successful on a Remote Broadcast
When sports come back, there is a high probability that many broadcast crews will be forced to work off site. That means a different scenario for play-by-play announcers, analysts and production teams.
In "Going Remote: How to Be Successful on a Remote Broadcast," we've put together a panel of industry leaders:
- FOX Sports 1 college football analyst Ben Leber;
- Veteran producer/director Ken Neal (FOX Sports South/Raycom/Tupelo Honey);
- Veteran FOX Sports South/Raycom play-by-play announcer Tom Werme.
They'll talk about the challenges we all will face and how you can be ready for them. And you can ask the question you want answered.
Covering Race and Racism in Sports
While certain events have grabbed headlines in the last few months, the way media cover race and racism in sports should be an ongoing discussion. We've lined up three sports media leaders to carry on that discussion on Thursday, June 18 at 4pm EDT. Join ESPN anchor and NSMA board member Jay Harris, Lonnae O'Neal of The Undefeated, and women's basketball television analyst LaChina Robinson for an open, honest, and interactive chat.
Do I Need An Agent and If So, When?
Join Steve Herz, President of The Montag Group, and author of the soon-to-be-released book Don't Take Yes for an Answer, as he discusses his experiences in talent representation, and what today's sportscasters need to do to communicate better. He'll also talk about how you can be your best critic, when and if you need an agent to represent you, and much more.
The interactive Zoom session begins at 4pm EDT on Thursday, June 4th.
This and all NSMA Continuing Education Series sessions are FREE to all NSMA members. Nonmembers may join for free on a one-time basis.

They'll join us on Tuesday, June 2 at 4pm EDT. As always, NSMA Continuing Education Series discussions are FREE to NSMA members, who must register through the drop-down menu below.
From Depression, To Blindness, To Fantasy Football and Beyond: My Journey Continues
By Dominick Petrillo
@EnvisionFF
Before starting with the following story of my life and in some sense downturn and redemption, I would like to state I am not a professional writer yet. I am a determined sports enthusiast; I love to write, doing so to the best of my abilities. I would also like to share a quick story about my development, something I did not learn until later in life.
