Duke Hires Shumate to Replace Harris
Duke has hired David Shumate to replace 2016 NSMA North Carolina Sportscaster of the Year Bob Harris, who retired after 41 seasons calling Blue Devils football and basketball.
NSMA Hall of Famer Deford Dies
Condolences to the family of NSMA Hall of Famer Frank Deford, who died on Sunday in Key West, according to his wife.
Deford was a six-time NSMA National Sportswriter of the Year and was elected to the NSMA Hall of Fame in 1998.
A longtime Sports Illustrated writer, Deford also authored several books, and was a commentator for 37 years on National Public Radio, from which he recently retired.
Deford was 78 years old.
